IDENT Task 1.1 What is the BBC? The BBC is the British Broadcasting Corporation, this company is a British based company, but they are a British public service broadcaster. To many people the BBC is their favourite channel but not to everyone but in fact the BBC is the number one channel in the whole of the UK. Why is the BBC so important to the people? The BBC is the oldest and longest running channel on the TV, this is important because it means that a lot of the people in the UK if not all people watch the BBC in order to get there news and information from all round the world in order to keep the informed about the current world. What is the purpose of an ident? The purpose of an ident is that it is the identity of a channel so for example an audience member will know the identity of that channel because they will see an advert of that channel and link it to that channel. So what a channel will do is play or show the ident of that channel before one of their programmes come on to get them to link it to them. What is the ethos behind the BBC? The mission behind the BBC is to educate and inform people about what’s going on out side their house and their worlds they do this though programmes and services that will inform you about what wars are going on or how America is dealing with Donald Trump being their president. How have the idents changed over time and why? Idents have changed over time, this is for different reasons but the main reason is when the BBC first started airing they had a very basic and simple ident. The first ident didn’t really have a lot of colour to it so the colours that they did have is black and white and also blue and black these are very serious colours which meant that they were trying to let a lot of serious information. Whereas these days the BBC idents is very different, they change with the times so now they use a verity of different colours and different locations instead of the earlier days of the BBC just showing different places on the map they change it up to keep people interested so that it stands out to the audience that it’s the BBC idents. On the BBC website they have what “ The BBC’s values are” and what they stand for. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/careers/why-join-us/values) Are there any similarities or constant themes? The BBC ident have some similarities between them like in all of the idents they either have BBC TV or BBC one on every one of the BBC idents that they every made in the last 94 years. Another similarities that’s in all, the idents is that they all have a circle but the constant themes of where the rings are placed, so in the new idents the circle is mainly contrasted in the middle but when it come to the older idents the ring is placed in the middle around the logo to represent the world like in the other old ident but in the new idents the circle is placed in different place all the time.
